From Vietnam to Vibrant Canvas: Artist Kimchi Hoang Shares Her Story and Art at The Kenwood – Jan. 27

Kimchi Hoang, The Kenwood’s visiting artist, will present a program on her abstract paintings at 2 p.m. Monday, January 27, at The Kenwood Senior Living, 825 Summit Ave, Minneapolis. Following the presentation there will be wine a cheese reception. A dozen paintings are displayed in the Kramer Gallery at The Kenwood for the next month. The public is warmly welcome to attend the free event.

Hoang was born in 1959 in Hoian, Vietnam and lived through the war. She taught herself to play six instruments. In addition, she will discuss her escape from Vietnam to the United States. Hoang will sing one of her original Vietnamese songs.

She graduated from the Hue National Music School. She emigrated to Minnesota in 1996 and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Minnesota. While in college, she became an abstract artist, working in oils, inks, and watercolors.

Kimchi Hoang remains a working musician, teaching violin, piano, and guitar to students, all while continuing to develop her skills as an abstract painter.
